We were made to contain the very life of Jesus. He means to live out the reality of who he is right here within the reality of who we are. He means to be our lives–the breath in our lungs, the thoughts in our heads, the energy and creativity in our jobs, the love in our hearts. He means to take on the stress and unravel the inner complications so that we can move through our lives just as he did, in His gentleness and simplicity and harmony.

We were never intended to be more than containers. We are the glove; He is the hand. We are the cup; He is the coffee. We are the lamp; he is the light.

This is what we were made for. This is the intended purpose of the human person and personality; not to be gods, but to contain God. This is the sheer simplicity of God’s design which was shattered by humanity’s sin. And it is the reason that Jesus came and cared and was killed and laid in a tomb and raised to life again…So that He could give us another shot at being what we were intended to be.

Memory Verse: Week of 1/28

Jesus said, “I AM the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

Reflect on this:

We’ve probably all heard the expression “Pride comes before the fall,” but have you ever reflected on how literally true it is? In the garden of Eden, satan convinced Eve that she could be like God if she would just disobey His command to not eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It was pride that made her believe she could be like God, and pride that transformed belief into desire, and desire in action…The fall of mankind.

We were not meant to be God, or to be elevated and adored like gods. Rather, we are called to be a temple for His holy presence. Pride will tell us that God loves us so much that His first concern is our happiness. The Truth is that God desires to dwell in us, so His number one concern is not our happiness, but our holiness.
